Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is a unique tax identification number issued by the IRS to individuals who are required to file taxes in the U.S. but are not eligible for a Social Security Number (SSN). It is primarily used by non-resident aliens, foreign nationals, and others for tax reporting purposes, such as filing tax returns or opening bank accounts in the U.S.
